According to the conclusions from a series of investigations and meetings, the research team of this project proposed a sound collection and treatment procedure for waste mercury thermometers and sphygmomanometers. As the sale prohibition of mercury thermometers and sphygmomanometers becomes a trend worldwide, a treatment system designed for small quantity and temporary purposes is suggested. Four treatment options are proposed: manual operation, treatment by waste fluorescent lamp recycling system, semi-mechanical treatment and overseas treatment. No matter which option is taken, it is important to solve the problems of mercury vapour and secondary pollution. Proper release and safe installation are also suggested.
